What more can I say then I loved this book. The characters are wonderful and full of life. The story pulls you right in and keeps you turning the pages until the very end. You will not be sorry you read this story. If you like Sparks or are a fan.this is a MUST read.
I have been a Sparks fan for a long time, and when all the hype came out about this book that had been turned into a movie, I figured the novel had to be one good read. It just seemed to lack substance, but what do I know. It really detracted from the enjoyment of reading this touching tale of love and loss.I'm just wondering if I read the first edition, since I got the book from the library, and that later editions had all those typos corrected.
I came across a typo in the first chapter, and it made me so angry that it took me two days to go back and continue reading. Maybe if Paul's outcome had been different I would have liked it better, as I'm a sucker for happy endings. Written in 2002, I was surprised that I hadn't read it yet, since I had read so many other books that he had written since then.I have to say that I was disappointed.
I hope so.As for the story itself, it was just okay for me. I forgave him for that one typo, because the same thing happened to me in one of my first novels. Unfortunately, the typos continued throughout the book and a few of them were major booboos.
With all the foreshadowing Sparks did, I was expecting a more dramatic conclusion. The movie was a big hit in the theatres, so, perhaps, if and when I do watch the film, maybe it will strike me as a more powerful drama.
I keep giving Sparks the benefit of the doubt, but I'm let down every time. I don't find the characters in his novels to be all that dynamic.
This is the 3rd Sparks novel I've read (just to see if maybe I've read a couple bad apples) but I have yet to be compelled to stay up all night reading one of his books. My interest was peaked by the movie trailer for Rodanthe, so of course I picked up the book knowing it would be better instead.
Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I wanted more. I felt for them, but not on a very deep level.
It was an easy read, which is what I was looking for seeing as how I was flying out of town for 3 days. But I just couldn't get into the characters' heads/shoes so much.
I feel somewhat teased by the lack of depth & development regarding storylines and characters. I don't understand how so many people find him to be so moving.
I used to love Nicholas Sparks books but they are are now predictible. Not this time. When I finished this one I just sighed and was left with what I was going to read next. Usually when I finish something I love I can't wait to read another from the same author or have fun just enjoying the moment. Sorry Mr. Sparks.
1. As I've noted in another review, I think his best book is his autobiographical book: Three Weeks with my Brother. Thus, if you're expecting and wanting another typical N.
Sparks is one of those folks who has become so successful that it's probably a double-edged sword in that his publisher expects him to crank out novel after novel. If you want some growth and originality; forget it. N.
Sparks book--> this will probably do the job. with the same formulaic material that has made him successful. 2.
3. An amazing book and nonfiction of all things.
